Gelco Fireplace Repair in Orlando: What to Know First
Gelco fireplace repair in Orlando typically runs between $180 and $650 depending on what’s failing, and most repairs are completed the same day. We’re an independent Gelco service provider – not a manufacturer affiliate – and we’ll give you a written price before any work begins. If you own a Gelco prefabricated fireplace or insert and something’s not firing right, not drawing, or making a sound it shouldn’t, this page tells you what’s actually going on inside the unit and what it costs to fix it. Call (850) 940-3442 and a live person answers.
How Gelco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Gelco built a reputation for affordable prefabricated fireplaces and inserts, and over the years we’ve seen clear patterns in how their units age – especially in central Florida humidity. Here’s what’s happening when a Gelco unit acts up:
- Standing pilot drops out on Gelco direct-vent gas units. The thermopile on older Gelco gas fireplaces loses millivolt output as it ages, and the pilot won’t stay lit even after you hold the knob in for a full minute. We test the thermopile under load first, because the real cause is usually diminished output – not the gas valve. A new thermopile typically gets it firing again the same visit.
- Glass soot buildup on Gelco vented gas logs. When the air shutter drifts out of adjustment or the burner ports clog with dust (and in Orlando, it’s often fine construction dust plus humidity), incomplete combustion leaves a black film on the inside of the glass. We pull the burner, clear the ports, reset the air-to-fuel mixture, and the glass stays watchable instead of needing a wipe-down every weekend.
- Firebox refractory panels crack on Gelco wood-burning models. The refractory panels on Gelco zero-clearance fireplaces take repeated heating and cooling, and after a decade they develop hairline cracks that widen over time. A cracked panel isn’t always urgent, but it does expose the metal firebox behind it to direct flame. We replace the panel with a correctly sized refractory section – and we’ll show you the photo of the crack before we touch anything.
- Blower fans hum but don’t move air on Gelco inserts. The blower on older Gelco fireplace inserts sits in a spot where lint, pet hair, and Florida’s fine dust collect. The motor runs, the bearings wear, and the fan doesn’t push heat. Sometimes it’s a cleaning; sometimes the blower’s shot. We diagnose it on the spot and quote a replacement before we order anything.
- Damper clamps seize on Gelco prefab units. On wood-burning Gelco fireplaces, the factory damper clamp can rust or warp just enough that the damper won’t seat fully – which means cold air drops down the flue in January. We free it, check the linkage, and if it’s too far gone we replace it with an aftermarket clamp built for the opening size.

Our Gelco Fireplace Repair Process
Danny Cortes grew up in Los Angeles and picked up chimney work at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before bringing that same methodical approach to Central Florida. He’s worked on everything from prefabricated zero-clearance fireplaces to old masonry setups, and on a Gelco job, the process doesn’t change – name the problem, show the proof, quote the price, do the work.
- 1
Listen first. You tell us the symptoms: pilot won’t stay lit, glass sooting, no heat, burning smell. We don’t rush to a diagnosis over the phone, but we’ll ask the questions that tell us which parts to bring.
- 2
Inspect with the owner present. We pull the glass, the logs, or the burners only after drop cloths are down and the area around the hearth is protected. We photograph what we find – cracked panel, clogged ports, weak thermopile – so you see it on our camera before you hear a dollar figure.
- 3
Parts decision. For Gelco units, OEM parts aren’t always the best choice. Some original Gelco burner assemblies are no longer manufactured, and quality aftermarket parts from suppliers we trust often outlast what came in the box. We’ll show you both options and what each costs.
- 4
Written price, then work. No repair begins until you’ve seen the price on paper and said yes. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise, and it’s not a courtesy – it’s how we operate.
- 5
Repair and test-fire. We run the unit through a full cycle before we pack up. On gas units that means confirming ignition, checking flame pattern, and verifying the pilot holds. On wood-burning we check draw and damper travel.
- 6
Clean-up photo and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. Floors are vacuumed, tools are out, and we photograph the finished hearth before leaving. If the repair doesn’t hold, we make it right – no fine print, no runaround.

AfterWhat Gelco Fireplace Repair Costs in Orlando
Most Gelco repairs in the Orlando area fall somewhere in these ranges, and the written price is always in front of you before work begins:
- Thermopile or thermocouple replacement: $180 – $290
- Burner cleaning and air shutter adjustment: $150 – $240
- Refractory panel replacement (single panel): $260 – $450
- Blower replacement or repair: $220 – $380
- Damper clamp replacement: $120 – $200
- Full fireplace inspection with camera: $150 – $250, credited back toward any repair we do
What moves the price is parts availability. Some Gelco-specific glass assemblies and burner pans are discontinued from the factory, and sourcing a clean aftermarket match takes longer and costs more than a generic part swap. We don’t mark up parts to pad the bill. Call (850) 940-3442 and tell us what the fireplace is doing – we’ll give you an honest range before we ever set foot in the house.
Why Orlando Homeowners Call Kindling Chimney Orlando for Gelco Work
We’re the company that writes the price down before the work starts – every time, no exceptions. Our background-checked, uniformed technicians follow the C.A.R.E. values on every visit: shoe covers and drop cloths go down the moment we arrive, nothing moves without asking, and a photo of the clean-up is taken before the crew leaves. If your Gelco fireplace sits in a home with kids and pets, you already know why that matters. We use pet-safe products where there’s a choice, and quiet tools when little ones are down for a nap. When a Gelco unit needs something beyond what Gelco made – a liner, a cap, a connector – we work with DuraFlex and HeatShield components, so the repair is built to hold. And every job rides on the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
FAQs
In most cases, no – but it depends on the age of the unit and what’s being replaced. Gelco warranties on prefabricated fireplaces typically run 10 to 20 years on the firebox and much shorter on components like burners, valves, and blowers. If your fireplace is still under warranty, we’ll work with the parts supplier to see what’s covered before we recommend an aftermarket fix. Most Gelco units we see in Orlando are past the component-warranty window, which means the decision comes down to availability and cost. Call (850) 940-3442 and we’ll help you figure out where your unit stands.
Some of them. Gelco was absorbed into a larger fireplace manufacturing group years ago, and certain original parts – especially glass assemblies and burner pans for older models – are no longer produced. But that doesn’t mean the fireplace is dead. We use quality aftermarket components matched to the unit’s specs, and in many cases those parts are actually more durable than the originals. Where Gelco OEM parts are still available, we’ll quote them. Where they’re not, we’ll show you what the aftermarket option looks like and what it costs before you commit.
If the firebox itself is structurally sound and the repair costs less than about a third of what a new unit installed would run, repair almost always makes sense. A $200 thermopile on a Gelco gas fireplace that’s otherwise in good shape is a no-brainer. But if the firebox has rusted through, the refractory is crumbling in multiple places, or you’ve got a cracked heat exchanger on a gas unit, we’ll tell you straight that replacement is the honest answer. We don’t sell fireplaces, so we have no reason to steer you into a new unit. Danny still does the inspection himself on jobs that need a second pair of experienced eyes – because that’s what the homeowner is owed.
Most Gelco repair calls in Orlando get a technician out within a few days, sometimes sooner depending on the part. We carry thermopiles, thermocouples, and the most common burner components on the truck, so a same-visit fix is common. If we need to order a specific aftermarket part, we’ll tell you the realistic timeline before we leave – and you won’t pay for the part until it’s installed. A live person answers the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so call (850) 940-3442 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
That’s exactly what our inspection is for, and we recommend it even if nothing seems wrong. A camera inspection shows the inside of the flue, the firebox, the damper, and the gas connections – the things you can’t see from the couch. We photograph everything, hand you the report, and tell you what’s fine, what can wait, and what needs attention. Know what’s in your flue before the first fire of the season – everything else follows from that. Call (850) 940-3442 to book.
