Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Cap Installation: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
DuraFlex chimney cap installation in Orlando typically runs $285 – $495 installed, depending on cap size, flue tile condition, and whether the old cap has corroded to the flue or comes off cleanly. We stock DuraFlex-compatible caps on our trucks for the most common flue sizes, so most swaps happen in a single visit. Most owners discover the problem the same way: they notice water staining near the fireplace, hear birds rustling inside the flue on a quiet morning, or spot rust flakes collecting on the hearth. Sometimes it’s a cap that flew off entirely during one of Orlando’s summer storms and showed up bent in the side yard. Whatever the story, a failed cap is one of the few chimney problems that’s genuinely straightforward to fix, and we’ll give you a written price before we touch anything.
Which DuraFlex Models This Applies To
DuraFlex is a stainless steel chimney liner system, and its caps are designed to sit directly on the liner’s termination point rather than clamping to a traditional clay flue tile. That’s the compatibility gotcha most Orlando homeowners run into: a standard cap from a big-box store won’t seat correctly on a DuraFlex liner because the liner has a smooth, round termination that requires a specific mounting collar. If you’re not sure what you have, look for the DuraFlex label on the liner’s exposed section in the attic or at the top of the flue, or measure the inner diameter: DuraFlex liners commonly run 5.5″, 6″, 7″, and 8″ for residential installations. We keep 6″ and 7″ caps stocked on the truck because those cover the majority of Orlando-area fireplace and furnace liner setups, and we can order any other size for quick turnaround. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with DuraFlex, which means we’re honest about when an aftermarket stainless cap is just as good and when an OEM DuraFlex cap is genuinely worth the extra cost. In our experience, for round liners in good condition, a well-made 304 stainless aftermarket cap matched to the liner diameter performs equal to OEM. Where OEM matters is if your liner termination has any specific profile or if the cap needs to mate with a DuraPlus or DuraTech transition piece.

Signs Your DuraFlex Chimney Cap Installation Is Failing
- Water in the firebox after rain. This is the classic first sign. A cap that’s rusted through or lost its mounting grip lets rain run straight down the liner into the firebox. If you notice damp ash or a musty odor after an Orlando downpour, the cap is the first thing we inspect.
- Rust flakes on the hearth or around the damper. The cap’s metal is degrading and dropping particles down the flue. Once rust is visible, the cap’s structural integrity is already compromised and it’s a matter of time before it loosens completely.
- Birds or animal sounds inside the flue. A missing or damaged cap leaves an open invitation for chimney swifts, squirrels, and other Florida wildlife. The rustling and chirping is unpleasant, but the nesting material is the real problem: it blocks airflow and creates a fire hazard.
- Spark or ember discharge from the top of the chimney. A cap’s spark arrestor mesh exists precisely to keep hot embers from landing on your Orlando roof or nearby landscaping. If you see sparks exiting the top, the mesh is torn or gone, and that cap needs replacing before your next fire.
- Visible damage after a storm. Florida storms, especially those with high winds and hail, can dent, loosen, or tear caps off entirely. If you find a bent metal object in the yard or notice the chimney top looks odd from the street, call us. A loose cap can damage your roof on the way down.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard DuraFlex-compatible connector kit installed on an existing round liner, Orlando families should expect to pay between $285 and $495. The spread depends on three things: the liner diameter (6″ caps cost less than 8″ caps), whether the existing cap comes off cleanly or requires careful cutting, and whether the cap needs a custom adapter to fit the existing termination. If the liner is fine and only the cap is bad, there’s no reason to replace the liner. We don’t recommend liner work unless our camera inspection shows a real problem, and we’ll show you the footage before quoting anything. Every cap installation includes the cap and connector kit in the written price, removal and disposal of the old cap and any debris, proper seating and seal of the new cap, and cleanup with our shoe covers and drop cloths intact. And like everything else we do, it’s covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a DuraFlex chimney cap means working on the roof, and in our view that’s where the honest answer lands: this is not a ladder job for a Saturday morning. The risk is in the roof access, not the cap itself. Orlando’s afternoon storms leave tile and shingle roofs slick, and a fall from even a single-story roof can change a life. What you can safely do is take a look from the ground or an upstairs window with binoculars: is the cap visibly rusted, bent, or missing mesh? If the damage is obvious, call us at (850) 940-3442. Danny Cortes has spent years working on Orlando-area chimneys, and he’d rather you see what we see before any work happens. We’ll inspect the cap and liner termination, show you what’s actually wrong, and give you a written price before we touch a single bolt.
FAQs
In Orlando’s heat and humidity, a good 304 stainless steel cap typically lasts 10 to 15 years before rust or storm damage makes replacement the sensible choice. The combination of intense UV exposure, salt-adjacent air in some neighborhoods, and seasonal storm cycles takes a toll. If your cap is showing rust after 8 years, it wasn’t a quality alloy to begin with. Call us at (850) 940-3442 for a free estimate on a replacement that’s built for this climate.
For bent mesh or repairable denting on an otherwise sound cap, yes, sometimes. But for rust-through, broken mounting hardware, or missing spark arrestor mesh, replacement is almost always the better value. Patching rusted stainless steel is a temporary fix at best, and the labor to source patches and match metals often approaches the cost of a new cap. We’ll give you our honest recommendation and a written price for either path.
Most DuraFlex cap replacements take 45 to 90 minutes from setup to clean-up, assuming the existing cap and liner termination are in typical condition. We protect your home with shoe covers and drop cloths, handle all roof work carefully, and photograph the clean-up before we leave. If the job runs longer because of rotted termination metal, we’ll show you what we found and give you a new written price before continuing.
We stock the most common DuraFlex-compatible cap sizes (6″ and 7″ round liners) on our trucks, so most installations happen in one visit. For 5.5″, 8″, or custom liner sizes, we order the correct cap and typically install within a few days. We also stock parts for other professional brands like HeatShield and Gelco, so if your chimney uses a different liner system we can likely still help. Call (850) 940-3442 and we’ll confirm what’s on the truck before we head out.
