Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
HeatShield Chimney Inspection in Orlando: What to Know First
A HeatShield chimney inspection in Orlando typically runs $189 to $389 depending on the level of inspection and whether your system is a factory-built unit or masonry, and our crew completes the full visual and camera work in a single visit. We are an independent HeatShield service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized dealer, which means we give you a straight assessment of what the flue actually needs without steering toward one brand’s replacement parts unless it’s genuinely the right call. If you own a HeatShield fireplace, gas log set, or steel liner system and want to know exactly what’s happening inside it, call (850) 940-3442 and a live person will get your inspection scheduled.
How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Find It
HeatShield makes a range of factory-built fireplace components and chimney liners, and after more than two decades of inspecting them, Danny Cortes and our Orlando techs know the failure patterns better than most. Here’s what we regularly find in homes across Dr. Phillips, Winter Park, College Park, and the surrounding area.
- HeatShield Ceramic Refractory Panels – hairline cracking at the side seams. These panels line the firebox of many factory-built HeatShield fireplaces. Orlando’s high humidity causes the underlying steel to expand and contract through our wet summers and occasional cold snaps, and the panels eventually develop hairline cracks at the seams. Most homeowners never notice until a Level 2 camera inspection shows the start of panel separation. The fix is panel replacement with a matched set – we never caulk or patch over cracked refractory because that just hides the problem until it gets worse.
- HeatShield steel liners – corrosion at the chase top. On HeatShield brand chimney liners installed in Orlando, we routinely see rust bleeding at the chase cover or top plate. Central Florida’s afternoon thunderstorms dump water onto the chase, and if the chase cover has even a small gap, that water runs down the outside of the liner and sits at the flashing. A camera inspection shows rust streaking inside the flue long before it becomes a leak. We seal and replace chase covers, repair flashing, and treat the liner surface to stop further corrosion.
- HeatShield gas log systems – soot and carbon buildup at the burner ports. HeatShield gas log sets in Orlando homes that run the fireplace for heat on cooler winter evenings accumulate soot unevenly, especially when the log placement has shifted over years of use. The telltale sign is orange flame instead of blue at the burner. During inspection we pull the logs, clear each port, check the thermocouple, and reset the log placement to the manufacturer’s layout so the flame pattern stays clean.
- HeatShield prefab fireplaces – delamination at the flue joints. On HeatShield factory-built fireplaces, the flue pipe sections are joined with a specific locking mechanism. Over time, Orlando’s heat and humidity can cause the joints to rust and separate slightly, which shows up on camera as small pinholes of light or black soot staining at the connection points. A Level 2 inspection catches this early, when a joint repair is still a few hundred dollars instead of a full flue replacement.
- HeatShield systems installed before 2015 – poor access at the termination cap. Older HeatShield installations in Orlando frequently have termination caps that were never properly sealed at the top of the chase. We find nests, tree debris, and rust at the cap on nearly a third of pre-2015 HeatShield systems we inspect. The inspection documents this with photos, and we replace the cap and add a proper rain guard so the top of the flue is protected from Orlando’s storm season.

Our HeatShield Chimney Inspection Process
Every HeatShield inspection in Orlando follows the same careful sequence, and nothing gets skipped. Here is exactly what happens when you call.
- 1
You call (850) 940-3442. A live person answers, asks about your HeatShield fireplace or liner, and schedules a time that works for your family. No voicemail tree, no waiting days for a callback.
- 2
Our technician arrives and walks the job with you. Before any work starts, you get a written price. Shoe covers go on at the door, drop cloths go down in front of the fireplace, and we ask about pets and kids so we can plan around nap times.
- 3
Level 1 or Level 2 inspection, based on your system and history. We visually inspect the firebox, refractory panels, damper, and the accessible portions of the flue. For a Level 2, we run a camera up through the HeatShield liner or flue pipe so you can see the condition in real time.
- 4
We sit down and show you the photos. No vague explanations. You see exactly what the camera saw, and we walk through what needs attention now, what can wait, and what is purely cosmetic.
- 5
OEM vs. aftermarket parts discussion. For HeatShield panels, liners, and burner components, we go over the trade-offs honestly. In most cases, we recommend OEM-matched parts for refractory panels and safety components, but where a quality aftermarket part like a DuraFlex connector or Gelco sealant does the same job at a lower price, we tell you that too.
- 6
Cleanup with photographic proof. Before the crew leaves, we photograph the area to show the floors and hearth are exactly as we found them. You get that photo as part of the Cedarwell Care Promise, and the entire inspection is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise.

Why Orlando Homeowners Call Kindling Chimney Orlando for HeatShield Work
Orlando families with kids and pets call us because they want the answer, not the upcharge. Danny Cortes grew up in Los Angeles, trained methodically at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and now brings that same unhurried approach to every HeatShield job in Central Florida. When a HeatShield flue needs a second set of experienced eyes, Danny still does the inspection himself, because he believes the homeowner is owed that level of care. Our techs know HeatShield systems specifically, and when another brand’s component is the better fix, we are just as comfortable working with DuraFlex or Gelco products. Every visit is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, the Cedarwell Care Promise, and a written price before any work begins.
FAQs
No. An inspection by an independent service provider does not void your HeatShield warranty. In fact, many HeatShield warranties require annual inspection and cleaning to remain valid. We do not perform any repair or modification without your approval, and any parts we install are either OEM-matched or comparable professional-grade replacements from brands like DuraFlex or Gelco.
Once a year, which is the same interval HeatShield recommends. Orlando’s humidity and storm-driven moisture accelerate rust and refractory panel wear, so skipping years here is riskier than in drier climates. If you use your HeatShield fireplace more than twice a week during winter, schedule your inspection in late summer so any needed repairs are done before burning season starts. Call (850) 940-3442 to get on the books.
Yes, and that is exactly when we recommend a Level 2 camera inspection. Orlando real estate transactions move fast, and most home inspectors do not run a camera up the flue. We have inspected HeatShield systems in homes all over Dr. Phillips and College Park where the previous owner had not had the flue checked in years. The camera tells you in thirty minutes whether the system is safe to burn. Know what’s in your flue before the first fire of the season – everything else follows from that.
Almost never. Cracked HeatShield refractory panels are replaceable as a set, and the repair typically runs a few hundred dollars, not a full fireplace replacement. The camera inspection confirms whether the cracks are limited to the panels or extend into the firebox structure. We only recommend replacement when the underlying steel is compromised, and we show you the photos so you can see the evidence for yourself. Call (850) 940-3442 for an exact quote on any HeatShield panel or liner work.
